Everyday Life in Istanbul in the Light of Ottoman Poetry

The seminar titled "Everyday Life in Istanbul in the Light of Ottoman Poetry" organized by the Department of Turkish Language and Literature of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of İstinye University was held on Thursday, December 28th with the participation of Prof.Dr.Ahmet Atilla ŞENTÜRK, a lecturer at the Department of Turkish Language and Literature. It took place on Topkapi Campus.

Prof.Dr.Ahmet Atilla ŞENTÜRK explained the Ottoman poetry and the political events of the period in general terms and stated that literature cannot be handled independently of the political and social characteristics of the period. Prof.Dr.Ahmet Atilla Şentürk said that Ottoman literature is intertwined with life and gave information about the narrative role of Ottoman poets. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Atilla ŞENTÜRK, who reminded that the Turks had a very strong poem before Islam, showed the connotations used in Ottoman poetry through the examples of poems he brought. Prof.Dr.Ahmet Atilla ŞENTÜRK mentioned that every couplet can be considered as a riddle in Ottoman poetry.
